A steep decline in the temperature yesterday evening made the shorts and strappy heels kind of a poor choice in hindsight, but this was the getup worn to early Thanksgiving dinner with some of my closest girlfriends. As a newly minted twentysomething, it has suddenly become vastly important to me to organize and properly celebrate Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays that follow. As a teenager and college student, this was less often the case -- mostly because being a teenager with raging emotions and insecurities made it difficult to actually like being around a flux of overly critical, smothering extended family members and as a college student, a four day weekend right before finals was essentially the opportunity to cram until cranial death. Now, however, I'm all about assembling cornucopias and dressing for the occasion in replica Pilgrim hats and Native American feathers around some maise and turkey. Never mind that the holiday calls to mind how the Pilgrims gave the natives syphilis! Or was it smallpox? Maybe both. Cranberry jelly and sweet potatoes all around.
